How to Close Apps Running in Background 🚫

When you leave an app, it often keeps running in the background. Here's how to fully close them.

Does Closing Apps Help?

Honest answer: On modern phones, it doesn't help much. Your phone manages apps automatically.

But it can help if:

  • 📱 An app is frozen or acting strange
  • 🔋 Your battery is draining fast
  • 🐢 Your phone feels slow

On iPhone (With Face ID)

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen
  2. Pause in the middle (don't lift your finger right away)
  3. You'll see all your open apps as cards
  4. Swipe up on any app card to close it
  5. Press anywhere else to go back to home screen

On iPhone (With Home Button)

  1. Double-press the Home button quickly
  2. You'll see your open apps as cards
  3. Swipe up on any app to close it
  4. Press the Home button to go back

On Android

Method 1: Recent Apps Button

  1. Tap the square button (or swipe up and hold)
  2. You'll see all your open apps
  3. Swipe left or right on an app to close it
  4. Or tap Clear All to close everything

Method 2: On Samsung

  1. Tap the three lines button (bottom left)
  2. See your open apps
  3. Swipe them away or tap Close All

💡 Tips

  • You don't need to close apps constantly - Your phone handles this
  • Close apps that are misbehaving - If one is frozen, close and reopen it
  • Closing all apps won't speed up your phone much - It's usually not necessary

⚠️ What NOT to Close

Some apps should stay running:

  • Phone - To receive calls
  • Messages - To receive texts
  • Email - To get notifications
  • Health/Fitness apps - If they're tracking your activity

The Simple Rule

Only close apps that are:

  1. Acting strange
  2. Frozen
  3. You definitely won't use again today
