How to Shop Safely on Your Phone 🛒

Shopping on your phone can be safe and convenient when you know what to look for. Here is how to shop with confidence.

Use Apps You Trust

The safest way to shop on your phone is through official store apps:

Never tap a shopping link from a text message or email unless you are sure it is real. Go to the store's app or website directly instead.

Before entering any payment information, check for:

🔒 A lock icon in the address bar — This means the site is encrypted
✅ The web address starts with https (the "s" means secure)
✅ The website name is spelled correctly — Scammers use look-alike names like "Amaz0n" or "Wal-Mart-Deals"

✅ Credit cards are safest for online shopping — they have fraud protection
✅ Apple Pay and Google Pay are also safe — they do not share your card number with the store
❌ Debit cards are riskier — money comes directly from your bank account and is harder to get back
❌ Never pay by gift card, wire transfer, or cryptocurrency — legitimate stores do not ask for these

📧 You should get a confirmation email. Save it until your item arrives.
📦 Track your package through the store's app or website, not through links in random text messages.
💳 Check your bank or credit card statement to make sure you were charged the right amount.

If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. A $900 TV for $50 is almost certainly a scam.
Compare prices between stores before you buy. The same item can be very different prices.
You do not need to save your credit card in every app. It is okay to type it in each time if that feels safer to you.
