What to Do If Your Phone is Lost or Stolen 📱
Don't panic! Follow these steps to protect your information and try to find your phone.
Step 1: Try to Find It (5 minutes)
If You Have Another Device:
iPhone: Go to iCloud.com/find on any computer
- Sign in with your Apple ID
- Click All Devices → Select your phone
- See its location on a map
Android: Go to google.com/android/find
- Sign in with your Google account
- See your phone's location
Play a Sound
Both services let you play a loud sound even if the phone is on silent. Great if it's just lost in the couch!
Step 2: Lock Your Phone (Immediately)
Can't find it? Lock it remotely:
iPhone (from iCloud.com/find):
- Select your device
- Click Mark As Lost
- Your phone is now locked
- Add a message with your number: "Please call if found"
Android (from google.com/android/find):
- Select your device
- Click Secure device
- Add a message and phone number
Step 3: Call Your Phone Company
Tell them your phone is lost/stolen. They can:
- 📵 Suspend your service - No one can make calls or use data
- 🔒 Block the phone - Make it unusable
- 💳 Protect your account

- T-Mobile: 1-800-937-8997
Step 4: Change Important Passwords
From a computer, change passwords for:
- 📧 Email (most important!)
- 🏦 Banking apps
- 📱 Apple ID or Google account
- 💳 Amazon, PayPal if you have apps installed
Step 5: If Definitely Stolen
File a Police Report
You'll need this for:
- Insurance claims
- Identity theft protection
Erase Your Phone Remotely
Last resort - this deletes everything:
- iPhone: iCloud.com/find → Erase This Device
- Android: google.com/android/find → Erase device
💡 To Prevent Future Problems
Set up these NOW while you have your phone:
- ✅ Find My iPhone or Find My Device - Turn it ON
- ✅ Screen lock - Use passcode, Face ID, or fingerprint
- ✅ Backup regularly - So you don't lose photos and contacts
