What is Google Meet? 🤔
Google Meet is Google's video calling service for:
- Virtual doctor visits
- Online classes
- Family gatherings
- Work meetings
It's free and works on any device!
Getting Started 📱
No app needed!
- Click the meeting link in email/text
- Opens in your web browser
- Or download Google Meet app
To download app:
iPhone: App Store → search "Google Meet"
Android: Play Store → search "Google Meet"
Joining a Meeting 🚪
If you have a link:
- Tap the meeting link
- May ask to open in Chrome/Safari
- Tap Allow for camera and microphone
- Type your name
- Tap Ask to join or Join now
- Wait to be let in (host approves)
If you have a code:
- Open Google Meet app (or meet.google.com)
- Tap Enter a code
- Type the meeting code
- Tap Join
Meeting Controls 🎛️
At the bottom:
- 🎤 Mic - Mute/unmute yourself
- 📹 Camera - Turn video on/off
- 🤚 Raise hand - Signal you want to speak
- 💬 Chat - Send messages
- 👥 People - See participants
- ⋮ More - Settings and options
- ❌ Leave - Exit meeting (red phone)
Before Joining Tips 📝
When you first join:
- You'll see yourself in preview
- Check your camera angle
- Test microphone
- Then click Join now
During the Meeting 🎥
To see everyone:
- Most meetings show up to 16 people
- Swipe to see more participants
- Current speaker gets larger
To mute yourself:
- Tap microphone icon
- Red line = you're muted
- Tap again to unmute
To turn off video:
- Tap camera icon
- Shows your name instead
- Tap again to turn back on
Screen View Options 👁️
Change how you see people:
- Tap screen during meeting
- Tap ⋮ (three dots)
- Choose view:
- Spotlight - Focus on speaker
- Tile - See everyone equally
- Auto - Switch automatically
Audio Troubleshooting 🔧
Can't hear anyone?
- Check volume buttons
- Make sure not on silent mode
- Try unplugging then replugging headphones
They can't hear you?
- Check you're not muted
- Allow microphone permission
- Speak closer to phone
Video Troubleshooting 📹
Camera not working?
- Make sure camera isn't covered
- Allow camera permission in Settings
- Try turning video off then on
- Restart the app
Leaving the Meeting 🚪
- Tap the red phone icon (bottom)
- Or tap Leave call
- Meeting ends for you
- Others can continue
Meeting Etiquette 🎩
Good practices:
- Mute when not speaking (reduces noise)
- Use video if possible (more personal)
- Find quiet spot
- Tell household you're on a call
Safety Tips 🔒
- Only join meetings from people you know
- Don't share meeting links publicly
- You can leave any time
- Report inappropriate behavior
