How to Back Up Your Phone 💾

A backup is a copy of everything on your phone — your photos, contacts, messages, and settings — saved safely in case something happens to your phone.

Why Back Up?

If your phone is lost, broken, or replaced, a backup means you do not lose:

  • 📸 Your photos and videos
  • 👤 Your contacts
  • 💬 Your text messages
  • ⚙️ Your settings and apps

Without a backup, all of that could be gone for good.

How to Back Up iPhone (iCloud)

  1. Connect to WiFi
  2. Open Settings
  3. Tap your name at the top
  4. Tap iCloud
  5. Tap iCloud Backup
  6. Turn it ON if it is not already
  7. Tap Back Up Now

Your phone will back up automatically every night when it is plugged in, locked, and on WiFi. You do not need to do anything after the first time.

How to Back Up Android (Google)

  1. Connect to WiFi
  2. Open Settings
  3. Tap System (or Accounts on some phones)
  4. Tap Backup
  5. Make sure Back up to Google Drive is turned ON
  6. Tap Back up now

Your phone will back up automatically when it is charging and on WiFi.

How Often Should You Back Up?

If automatic backup is turned on, your phone handles it every night. You do not need to remember. If you want to be extra safe before traveling or getting a new phone, do a manual backup using the steps above.

💡 Tips

  • iCloud gives you 5 GB of free storage. If your phone says iCloud is full, you can upgrade to a bigger plan for a small monthly fee. It is worth it to keep your photos safe.
  • Google gives you 15 GB of free storage shared across Gmail, Drive, and Photos.
  • Backing up does not delete anything from your phone. It just makes a copy.

⚠️ When You Get a New Phone

When you set up your new phone, it will ask if you want to restore from a backup. Say yes, sign in with your Apple ID or Google account, and everything comes back — your photos, contacts, apps, and settings. That is the magic of having a backup.
