How to Mute and Unmute Yourself 🔇

Muting turns off your microphone so others can't hear you. It's polite to mute when you're not talking!


Why Mute?

  • 🐕 Your dog is barking
  • 🍽️ Family is making noise nearby
  • 🚗 You're in a loud place
  • 🤧 You need to cough or sneeze
  • 🗣️ Multiple people in a meeting - less echo

On Zoom

🖥️

Computer:

  • Mute: Click the microphone icon at the bottom-left
  • Unmute: Click it again
  • Quick unmute: Hold the spacebar to talk, release to re-mute

Phone/Tablet:

  • Tap the microphone icon at the bottom
  • Red line through it = you're muted
  • Tap again to unmute

On FaceTime

  1. During the call, tap the screen to show controls
  2. Tap the microphone icon
  3. Tap again to unmute

On Google Meet

  • Click/tap the microphone icon at the bottom
  • Red = muted
  • White = unmuted

On WhatsApp Video Call

  • Tap the screen to show controls
  • Tap the microphone icon
  • Tap again to unmute

💡 How to Know You're Muted

Look for these signs:
